I am not saying this to brag, but to let you know that my advice about where to stay in St. Croix is based on my personal experience, and although you should not rely on my reviews only, you know at least that my personal opinion of the below-mentioned places is authentic. ☺️

If you are looking for a luxury resort in St. Croix with a rich history, stunning views, and unparalleled luxury, you’d be hard-pressed to do better than The Buccaneer Beach and Golf Resort.
I stayed there multiple times in different kinds of rooms and loved every bit of it. Of course the villas are the most luxurious but all of them have something special to offer, be it the locatin, the lay out, the views.
The Buccaneer is a family-owned resort that has been welcoming guests since 1947 on 340 acres of tropical paradise.
There are three beautiful beaches within walking distance, an 18-hole golf course, a spa, a fitness center, a water sports center, and more.
You can also explore the historic French Greathouse, the sugar mill, and the Governor’s home on the estate.
Initially, the resort started with only 11 guest rooms in 1947. Today, it boasts 131 elegant rooms with balconies or patios and mini-fridges.
A delicious and reach breakfast is included, as well as a welcome drink and many guest activities.
The Buccaneer Beach and Golf Resort is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate in St. Croix. Definitely the best choice if you are ready to splurge.

2. Tamarind Reef Resort – Christiansted
Tamarind Reef Resort, Spa & Marina offers its guests a peaceful getaway in St. Croix with amazing views of the ocean and the islands.
The resort is a gem on a private reef where you can snorkel, kayak, and swim with colorful fish.
You can also relax by the pool, play tennis at one of the four tennis courts, enjoy a spa treatment or dine at one of the two restaurants.
The resort has 40 cozy rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges.

Caravelle Hotel & Casino is a hotel that’s right in the heart of Christiansted.
The hotel has been renovated from a 1960s building and has a modern charm that its guests really love.
The spacious rooms offer ocean views through their balconies.
You can also dine at the excellent Rum Runner’s Restaurant and Bar, where you can taste Caribbean and international cuisine.
The hotel is located on the waterfront, close to many attractions and activities.
Some of the most famous ones are the 18th-century forts, the old French fort site, and the Salt River where Columbus landed.
You can also go fishing, diving, and snorkeling in the clear water.
The guests love the hotel’s central location, service, and atmosphere.
This property or Hotel is simply excellent! The location is on a peer right next to the sea so you get spectacular views and nice relaxing breeze, not to mention the numerous restaurants located right there on the peer! The Casino is state orlf the art great service and free drinks. This is now one of my main. destinations to vacate to!!

5. Company House Hotel – Christiansted
Company House Hotel is located on Company Street, one of the most vibrant and colorful streets in Christiansted.
During your stay here, you’ll be surrounded by shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions that showcase the island’s charm and diversity.

The KingChristian Hotel is a waterfront gem in downtown Christiansted.

7. The Palms at Pelican Cove – Christiansted
The Palms at Pelican Cove is located on a white sand beach with coconut palms and a coral reef.
The resort has a big pool, a bar on the beach, and a restaurant with great food and oceanfront dining.
You can swim and snorkel in the sea nearby (the hotel offers free snorkeling gear to its guests), or relax by the pool.
The resort has 40 rooms with ocean views, balconies, and microwaves. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.
Located on the outskirts of Christiansted, The Palms offers tranquility and peace.
If you’re looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of Downtown Christiansted and are just looking to relax, this is the resort for you.
However keep in mind that the rooms are very simple and with no frills. So if you have a more sofisticated taste, this hotel is not for you.

8. Barrenspot Tropical Villa – Christiansted
The Barrenspot is a villa that doesn’t look or feel like a resort or a rental villa at all, and that’s why its guests rate it so highly. It’s your home away from home, fully equipped with everything you need to feel comfortable.
You will have the whole place to yourself, with a balcony, a garden, and a barbecue area. The apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a flat-screen TV.
The apartment has air conditioning, free WiFi, and free private parking. You can use the barbecue facilities in the garden to grill some delicious food. The property is ideal for families, groups, or couples who want to enjoy the beauty and culture of this island in a tranquil setting that they don’t have to share with anyone else.
We loved that the property was in the middle of the two cities and how inviting the home felt.

9. Sand Castle on the Beach Resort (Adults Only) – Frederiksted
Sand Castle on the Beach Resort is an adults-only, gay-friendly boutique hotel on Frederiksted Beach.
The resort offers well-equipped studios, suites, and villas with kitchens, air conditioning, and free Wi-Fi.
You can enjoy the views of the Caribbean Sea from the terrace, relax in the two outdoor pools, or dine at the Beach Side Café.
The hotel also provides snorkeling equipment, kayaks, and a gym for your fun and fitness.
Interesting trivia, the Sand Castle is now owned by two former guests who loved staying at the resort so much that they eventually bought it in order to provide the same experience and joy to other people that they themselves experienced when staying here.
They fell in love with the place on their first visit in 1998, and today they welcome guests from all over the world to fall in love with this resort as well.
About the location, this hotel is located in one of the best beaches of the island in the small town of Fredriksted, away from the busier Christansted. There are amazing dive site on this part of the island and watersport activities.
Upgraded us to a beach front room which was very much appreciated. The location of this hotel is amazing for the price. So it’s not new but the location more than makes up for it.

10. The Frederiksted Hotel – Frederiksted
The Frederiksted Hotel is a family-owned, eco-friendly hotel in the historic center of Frederiksted.
It offers comfortable rooms with balconies, sea views, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.
You can enjoy a delicious breakfast at the on-site restaurant or explore other dining options nearby (of which there are plenty, thanks to the hotel’s central location).
The hotel also provides guest laundry and on-demand housekeeping.
The Frederiksted Hotel is located close to the beach, where you can access Louie and Nacho’s Beach Bar and enjoy the sunset views.
You can also try diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and other water sports on the island.

11. The Fred (Adults Only Hotel) – Frederiksted
The Fred is a relatively new beachfront boutique hotel for adults only on Frederiksted Beach.
The hotel is named after King Frederik V of Denmark, who also gave his name to the town where the hotel is located.
Since its opening, the hotel has won many awards for its style, service and amenities, including the best adults-only resort in Frederiksted.
The Fred offers 22 rooms spread across 6 buildings. Each room has balconies, sea views, air conditioning, and free Wi-Fi.
Each building has a unique personality and story, reflecting the rich history of the property.
The Fred is an eco-friendly and inclusive resort that welcomes adults of all backgrounds and preferences.
It’s also one of the few pet-friendly resorts on this list, so if you’re traveling with a furry friend, you should give this one a try.
The Veranda was comfortable & spacious. The woman who checked us in was very friendly, informative & even brought a small coffee maker to our room!

12. Victoria House – Frederiksted
Victoria House is a historic boutique inn and a highly sought-after event venue in Frederiksted. The hotel has a rich history that dates back to the late 18th century.
The house was partially burnt in the “Fireburn” labor insurrection of 1878, the gingerbread trim, which the Victoria House is famous for today, was added when the building was being restored and repaired afterward.
The Gardiner Family has owned it since 1946 and has recently renovated it with love and care, preserving as many of the original features as possible.
Victoria House is a place where you can experience the historic Caribbean charm and modern comfort in one.
The resort offers studio, one- and two-bedroom suites, some with adjoining rooms for groups.
The hotel’s convenient location means that you’re never far from the countless bars, restaurants, shops, and activities that St. Croix has to offer.
Very nice crown molding and very beautiful chandelier. We really love the cute room and it’s nice amenities. It was a nice touch with the complimentary water and homemade fudge. The host was very responsive. The water pressure in the shower was good and the bathroom was very clean.

13. The Waves at Cane Bay – Kingshill
The Waves at Cane Bay is one of the most spectacular hotels in St Croix, probably the only real competitor to the Buccaneer.
I haven’t personally seen this hotel because it wasn’t there at the time when I was traveling to the island, but having seen the pictures, and the amazing rewiews, I can tell you that I would book it in an heartbit.
The Waves Cane Bay has 11 cozy suites with modern amenities and eco-friendly practices, and decorated with sophisticate taste.
Each suite has a private patio with ocean views and sounds, with some suites also having kitchenettes for your comfort.
The location is also one of the best, as Cane Bay is a great spot for diving and also at a short distance from the natural pool, a local attraction that you should not miss.
For a special treat, visit AMA, the hotel’s sustainable seafood restaurant and bars.
AMA has a covered outdoor dining room above the grotto.
You can enjoy delicious dishes and drinks with the ocean breeze and scenery.
AMA also has two bars with cocktails and wine.
The Waves Cane Bay is your perfect place for a romantic and peaceful escape on the water.
Great design, very private, oceanfront, kitchenette and location was about equidistance to get to major sites on the island.

Best Area to Stay in St. Croix US Virgin Islands
👉🏽 Christiansted
Christiansted is the place you want to be if you feel like staying in a charming town located on the coast.
Known for its Danish colonial architecture and steeped in history, it was once a bustling trading center.
Today, the town offers a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
Tourists can explore historic sites like Fort Christiansvaern and enjoy the vibrant waterfront area.
The boardwalk at the waterfront provides breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea, where water sports enthusiasts can indulge in activities like snorkeling, diving, and sailing.
Of course, all that lively atmosphere is perfect for the cultural scene.
There are regular live music performances, art exhibits, and events like the weekly Jump Up street party.
All of these factors make Christiansted easily one of the best areas to stay in, and I personally highly recommend it.
👉🏽 Frederiksted
If you visit St Croix on a cruise ship tour, you’ll likely port at Frederiksted, as it’s the only cruise port in St Croix.
Locals refer to the town as Freedom City, owing to its being the site of the emancipation of slaves in St Croix.
The town provides you with the perfect mixture of history, beach bliss, and the Caribbean experience.
The streets are lined with colorful buildings, reminiscent of St Croix’s liveliness.
Staying here, you’ll find yourself immersed in a picturesque setting that seems straight out of a postcard.
👉🏽 North Shore
If you are looking for a quiet and scenic place to stay in, the North Shore is worth considering.
This area in itself has a lot to offer, and it’s situated close to Christiansted so you get the best of both worlds.
The town gives you plenty of opportunities to have fun, both on land and on the water.
The Salt River Bay at the North Shore is breathtaking at night because it’s bioluminescent.
And thanks to its proximity to the biodiverse Puerto Rico Trench, there’s sea life aplenty in the waters around the town.
You can swim with turtles, dolphins, and even humpback whales in the right season!

The East End of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands is a captivating destination with a variety of attractions.
Staying here, you’ll be greeted by stunning ocean vistas and a desert-like landscape dotted with cacti.
Drive along the East End to witness rolling hills and catch a glimpse of Buck Island from the north side.
Don’t miss the V.L Baseline Array Telescope on the way to Point Udall, recognized as the easternmost point of the U.S., where you can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of the Caribbean Sea.

Is St. Croix safe for solo travel?
Yes! St. Croix is very safe for solo travel. As a part of the US Virgin Islands, St. Croix has a ton of beauty and history to enjoy and explore.
And you’ll be glad to know that you can enjoy all of it without worrying about your safety.
The crime rate in St. Croix is very low; and with some basic precautions, you’ll be as safe as possible when visiting St. Croix.
Are there areas to avoid in St. Croix?
The only area I would say to avoid in St. Croix is The Projects.
However, tourists don’t usually go into that area, to begin with.
Apart from that, you should also avoid dark alleyways and deserted streets (especially backstreets) at night in general, no matter where you are in St. Croix (or anywhere else, for that matter).
How many days should you stay in St Croix?
That depends on what you want to do, how much time you have for your vacation, and your budget.
If you just want to see the highlights of the island, 3 to 4 days is enough time for that.
You can stretch that to about 5 to 6 days by adding some activities like sailing to Buck Island or visiting a plantation.
On the other hand, if you want to relax and enjoy St. Croix to its fullest, plan to stay for at least 7 days.
What are the best months to visit St. Croix?
St. Croix experiences its best weather from December to March.
But that’s also the peak tourist season when the island will be very crowded with other tourists looking to escape the winter blues.
Hotel prices are also quite high, expect to pay about $150 more per night if you visit during these months.
If crowds don’t sound like your cup of tea (it’s not mine either), you can visit anywhere from April to May, or September to November.
The weather is still mild during these months, and there are still plenty of activities and events to enjoy.
How to get around St. Croix?
The main options to get around St. Croix are taking a taxi, renting a car, or using the bus.
However I rented the car every time I traveled to St Croix because it’s definitely the most convenient way to explore the island and reach all the little bays and points of attractions.
It’s quite a big island and the public bus would only take you to the main towns and using taxis can get quite expensive.
My best recommendation is renting a car if you really want to have a blast on the island. You could compare rates on the Discover Cars platform where you can check the reviews and compare rates and policies beteween different car rentals.

Tips to Have the Best Stay in St Croix US Virgin Islands
Luckily, having the best stay at St. Croix is quite easy, given the Island’s charm and beauty. Here are some tips I have to offer.
📌 Plan your visit during the dry season (December to April) if you don’t mind the crowds and paying extra. Otherwise, visit from April to May or September to November. Avoid June through August as it is hurricane season.
📌 Don’t forget to explore the island’s stunning beaches.
📌 The waters around St. Croix are simply excellent for snorkeling (for beginners and experienced snorkelers alike).
Even if it’s your first time, book a tour that caters to beginners and has the time of your life! Dive into the underwater wonders at Cane Bay Wall or Frederiksted Pier. Get ready for colorful coral reefs and marine life.

The point is, you’ll create memories that’ll last a lifetime.
What is the most popular area on St. Croix?
It’s hard to say, with St. Croix being such a popular tourist destination.
But, in my personal opinion, Frederiksted and Christiansted both share the title.
Christiansted, being the biggest town on the island, attracts tourists with its history, colonial architecture, nightlife, and watersports.
Frederiksted is a close second, with its own unique charm and a more laid-back atmosphere than Christiansted.
What part of St. Croix is the best to stay in?
The “best” part of St. Croix to stay in depends on your personal tastes and budget.
Christiansted, being the largest town on the island, offers you the best amenities and accommodation options, but it might be too crowded for some.
In that case, you might prefer Frederiksted or even the East End for relaxing on your own.

What are the two main cities in St. Croix?
The two main towns in St. Croix are Christiansted and Frederiksted.
They are quite different.
Frederiksted is more laid-back and better suited for relaxing, in its spectacular white sand beach, whereas Christiansted is livelier and offers more opportunities for having outdoor fun.
Can I travel to St. Croix without a visa?
That depends on where you’re coming from. Since St. Croix is part of the US Virgin Islands, US citizens don’t need a visa to visit and not even a passport.
If you are a US Citizen, your ID is accepted to travel to St Croix and the USVI.
Travelers from the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand can also travel to St. Croix without a visa.
The residents of the aforementioned countries need a valid passport for the duration of their stay, and in some cases, their passports must be machine-readable.
These travelers must also have a return or onward ticket and may need to register on the US government ESTA website before departure.
Is it better to stay at St. Thomas or St. Croix?
St. Thomas and St. Croix are both very popular destinations, but they have different vibes.
St. Thomas is more commercialized, which means you’ll get more options for nightlife and shopping there, and fewer options for wildlife exploration, snorkeling, hiking, etc.
The latter is where St. Croix shines. St. Croix is also less crowded than St. Thomas, which is a huge plus point for some people.
In the end, the answer depends on what you’re looking for. They’re both worth a visit, but also have different atmospheres.
Do they speak English in St. Croix?
Yes. English is spoken very commonly in St. Croix and you’ll have no problem communicating in English.
