UPDATE: Please check out Le guanahani website to read updatings on their reopening, since the hotel, just like the entire island had been severely affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria, last year.
Le Guanahani is definitely my favorite hotel in St Barth and among my favorites in all the Caribbean and I am going to tell you why.
St Barth is full of amazing luxury hotels and villas, no doubt the choice is very hard; I mean REAL luxury, taken to the next level.
And I am not talking golden chandeliers and mahogany furniture, but extremely professional, and yet friendly, service, and attention to details in an elegant environment, where you feel like you are floating in bliss.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about because everything is taken care of, and your needs are fulfilled even before they are expressed.
This, to me, is Luxury!
I chose Le Guanahani due to my particular fondness for this hotel for it has a special charm in the decoration of the rooms and the impeccable gardens, besides the amazing location.
And as soon as I stepped into the beautiful hotel for the check-in I knew I had made the right choice.
The suites are located in such a way that everyone has their own privacy.
The gardens are immaculate, with palm trees and the colorful bougainvillea flower, and when you have also a sea view room as I did; well… it is the cherry on the cake.
The purple-colored walls of the room and the pristine, soft white linen gives the room a homey feeling, and the huge bright pink bougainvillea bush tree, contrasting with the blueness of the sea on the horizon, was a beautiful sight to wake up to in the morning, by just turning your head towards the veranda.
In fact, I love to leave the curtains open, when the layout of the property allows you the necessary privacy, as in this case, it did. In the room, you have a Lavazza espresso machine, which for me, an Italian, is luxury in its own right.
The white main building where the concierge is located has a historical, quaint feeling with its wooden floor and colonial furniture, and the surrounding landscapes are impeccable, making the path to the beach a pleasant walk in nature.
The restaurant on the beach, open for breakfast and lunch is a dreamy location for your first meal of the day, especially if you happen to go very early when it is not busy.
The breakfast buffet offers a variety of delicious fresh bread, pastries, cold cuts and cheese (we are in France, after all), and you can order some specialties á la carte.
The same location, only right on the sandy beach, is open for lunch as well, with dishes for every taste and dietary requirement.
One of the peculiarities of Le Guanahani is the location which encompasses 2 beaches: the first, the main beach in a grand cul-de-sac, where all the activities are going on; the other, on Anse Marechal, to the left of the restaurant, and basically deserted. Some rocks in the water make the access a bit of a challenge, but there are spots where you can enjoy the transparent turquoise waters in tranquillity, as I did.
The hotel beach beds are situated on both sides, and once you pick your favorite spot, a kind beach attendant will be happy to bring you your towels and make your beach nest for you. A food and drinks menu is located underneath the umbrella for your convenience.
A very equipped water sports hut is located on the right-hand side of the main beach, beside the supervised gym, where you can exercise while admiring the splendid view of the sea. A water sports attendant will gently and patiently assist you with the equipment requested, and give you the basic instructions on kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling, which would be quite interesting in the area.
Another outstanding element of Le Guanahani is the concierge and front desk staff.
They were not only extremely efficient in solving a few concerns I had about my flight and my car rental, but they did it with an authentic, sincere and genuine intention to help; this is something of extreme value for a hotel of this level, and unfortunately a rare gift. It is an aspect I really appreciate because this is the way I used to look after my guests when I was working as a tour rep back in the days, and I know it makes the difference when you own the situation and your concern for them is for real. They call you by your name and assure you everything is as planned. Again, this is real Luxury. They also helped me to track down a hiking guide and confirmed that she was the only one on the island. When we found out she was not available, the concierge showed me a couple of beautiful hikes that I could do on my own, and as it turned out, this was the best option. I had the time of my life.
Last but not least at all, whether you are traveling with an extended family or you just like to enjoy the comfort of more space and a private pool, you can book the serenity suite and that is Heaven on earth, you just don’t want to leave anymore.
Le Guanahani is indeed a magical place: classy, elegant and simple, made up of genuinely amazing people.
