The Best Airbnb in Puerto Vallarta Old Town
Going south from the Marina and the Hotel Zone at about a 20-minute drive, you will get into the old town, which is, for me, the most charming area. You know you are entering the Old town when the Malecon begins, the promenade that goes all the way along the beach up to the Zona Romantica. Fancy Restaurants, colorful art galleries, cobblestone roads, and hilly lanes make this part of town the most charming and exciting. If you walk through the narrow streets, you can find beautiful corners of the city, with stunning colonial houses, and the more you climb, the more spectacular the view of the bay gets.
FUN FACT – The old town is where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton bought their home after making their affair public during the movie “The Night of the Iguana” shooting. This movie brought Puerto Vallarta on the map for international tourism. The spectacular former homes are now luxury hotels and restaurants.

The best Airbnb in Puerto Vallarta Zona Romantica
The Zona Romantica can be considered an extension of the Old Town, in some way. It’s newer but with the same old charm, with lots of art galleries, delicious street food, and the famous Playa de los Muertos.
The two areas are separated by Cuale Island a small island in Cuale river connected by a bridge which basically makes it a unique long promenade all along the city. My favorite thing was to walk on the beach or the Malecon either early morning or late in the evening to watch the sunset. That’s why this is my favorite are to stay in Puerto Vallarta.
Playa de los Muertos marks the end of Puerto Vallarta Zona Romantica. However, the city continues along the steep coast up to Conchas China, lined with hotels and condo boasting spectacular views over the bay.
The Zona Romantica is where the nicest homes are located. I have found so many amazing places such as the homes here below.

This colorful studio is located on the Petit Hotel Villa Mercedes premises in the heart of the Romantic Zone, only two blocks from the famous Playa de los Muertos. I have visited these studios personally, and they are beautifully decorated and well furnished with modern amenities. It’s very different from the newly built luxury apartment, but it has a lot of charm and a unique historical feel.
The hotel has a cute bar and restaurant in the well-curated courtyard around the pool, where they offer breakfast included in the rate. It is a great option for one or two people who love to be close to the beach and the Zona Romantica restaurants in Puerto Vallarta.

Continuing south from the Zona Romantica for a few km you will find yourself on spectacular hills overlooking Banderas bay . The apartment in these area are in great demand for their spectacular views. Conchas Chinas in particular is also a spectacular beach. You can also have a nice walk from the beach directly from Playa de los Muertos during the day. In the night is advisable to call a Uber, unless you have your own car.
